HUMOR WITH A LESSON Two ladies, dressed to the hilt in their Easter finery, were making slow progress in the crowd headed for the entrance to the church. Finally one of them burst out impatiently, "Now wouldn't you think that these people who do nothing but go to church Sunday after Sunday would stay home on Easter and leave room for the rest of us!" May none of us be Easter only worshipers. The earliest Christians thought of every Sunday as a “little Easter” in which they celebrated the resurrection of Jesus. For if you believe in the resurrected Jesus, you will want to be in church every Sunday to celebrate His resurrection and ongoing presence in our lives. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead!” (1 Peter 1:3)
Stewardship Corner The women went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body. Confused and distressed at finding an empty tomb, they were further bewildered to hear the words of “a young man dressed in a white robe. . . ‘[Jesus] has risen! He is not here . . . Go, tell His disciples and Peter . . .” (Mark 16:5-7). Easter is the celebration of the Empty Tomb. Every Sunday we are reminded, “Go, tell!” Like the women, we may be “trembling and bewildered” (Mark 16:8), but, we, too, are emboldened by God’s Spirit to carry out His command. Go tell. He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

LIFE LINES Written by Jeanne Strubbe Life Ministry Coordinator, Salem Lutheran
Have you ever stared in awe at the beauty of the Grand Canyon or the majesty of Mt. McKinley? Have you ever wondered at the puzzle behind the great Pyramids? I’m sure we have all been impressed by the sheer beauty of so many places in our world. But how many of us have thought about the human body and what a marvelous, intricate creation it is? David knew as we read in Psalm 139: 13-14. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Our bodies are made up of millions of cells, all working together in one unit. God arranged the cells in our body, each and every one, just as He wanted them to be. There are many cells, but one body. God has also arranged the cells in unborn children, from the very moment of conception, just as He did for His own son, Jesus. Medical technology has allowed us to witness the wonders of a child’s development through sonograms. To anyone who has seen a sonogram of an unborn child, there is no doubt that they are looking at a human baby. But, with abortion, (“choice”), "death with dignity," and doctor-assisted suicide, the current social acceptance of these practices exposes our culture's confusion about what it means to be human. Society has assumed the practice of deciding the value of a human life. Elimination of a life unworthy is brought about by means such as abortion and euthanasia. God’s power has been set aside by man’s decision to assume he knows what is best. But, Isaiah 55:8 tells us, My thoughts are not your thoughts, and my ways are not your ways. God is the giver of life and He values each and every life as His own precious child. In fact, He values our lives more than that of His own son who He sent to die in our place for all of our sins. Romans 8:32. He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will He not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Now, here’s the rest of the story. After the physical and verbal abuse heaped upon Jesus resulted in His death, He rose again in victory over death. He had paid the price for our salvation. But, it doesn’t stop there. Jesus also told us in Matthew 28:19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All nations include all humans. Pray for an end to the culture of death that has taken over our nation. Use the gifts God has given you to press forward in educating the citizens of our nation in the evils of abortion and euthanasia. Thanks be to God for the progress we are making, but the battle is far from over.
